This is going to be a slight continuation from the previous post. Last week I had a few screen shots from "Bugs Bunny Gets The Boid." This week we are going to do The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror V. One of the very few Simpsons episode where you will find Homer looking like this:

Fans of The Simpsons will instantly recognize this scene from Treehous of Horror V "The Shinning." It is one of the most memorable moments from the series. My theory on why is because Homer was allowed to look crazy, he was allowed to look like an animated cartoon verses the "always on model" look you get in every episode. I think John Kricfalusi (Ren and Stimpy) said it best when he recently mentioned on his blog that The Simpsons "is perfect." I agree, it is perfect. This may explain why one of my favorite seasons of the series is the first season.

The first season just plain looks strange. The way the characters developed from the first to the second season is remarkable...and they haven't changed a bit since then. There are oddities in the first season, the characters are not 100% "on model" but this gives the first season a unique feel that no seasons since have had. I'm strictly talking from an animation stand point, there are definite staples in each season that define it, but I feel that stems more from the writing and stories. Fans of the series can tell a "2nd season" episode from a "3rd season" episode, but nothing sticks out more than a "first season" episode. I have another great example from The Simpsons of Homer being allowed to just look crazy, to really annimate. I will find it soon and post it. If anyone has some good examples please let me know or add them in the comments or something.

There is hardly anything creative about this comic. It is solely based off my love of the classic Warner Brothers cartoons of the 1940's and 50's.

This brings me to a post I have kind of wanted to do for a while. One of my favorite shorts of all time is "Bugs Bunny gets the Boid" a Bob Clampett cartoon from 1942. Bob Clampett cartoons have some of the craziest expressions you will ever see, including anything you may see in Ren and Stimpy.

These are a few screen caps from the short. Notice how Bugs starts off reading the book, and how quickly his expressions change and how crazy they look.

This probably isn't the best example, but a good one from one of my favorite cartoons. So without further ado, here it is "Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid."

This is really quite a cop out, but the comic I wanted to do is not appropriate for the news paper. Which if fine, in fact it's probably a good idea. So instead this is like a "choose your own adventure" kind of thing. If you want to see the real one I wanted to do, you have come to the right place, if not, then I hope you enjoyed your stay. Now on with the show....

This is actually a re-work of an idea I had a while ago. And is actually quite similar to the original idea. The only real change is the "punch-line" I changed the way the text reads on the cross. I'm not sure if it gets the joke across better or not.

I don't generally have trouble with my cell phone, but every now and then I get a voicemail message from the past. Sometimes weeks after the fact. I guess there is the occasional rip in the cell phone time space continuum.

Stormy Weather
If you happened to be in Lawrence, Kansas on March 12th, you would have found a town in complete ruin. Okay, well not a complete ruin, but there was some pretty bad damage to the city, due to, what was later confirmed as a micro burst. I'm just going to call it a tornado. The cost due to the storm is estimated at around $6,000,000. Many homes were with out power for more than 2 days, actually a small number of homes are still without power. 60% of the University of Kansas campus was with out power and classes were cancelled March 13th. It was the first time in history that classes were canceled because of something other than snow.

Un-Fozzie-bearable

In all honesty, Fozzie Bear was a really big influence on me when I was a kiddo. My parents had bought me a video tape of Fozzie telling jokes. And let me just say, FUCKING HILARIOUS...at least as far as I can remember. I would watch that video over and over, which may explain some thing... So, I present to you, my homage to the late great Mr. Fozzie Bear.

P.S. I think Fozzie is still alive, so don't be sad.

The "Sketch Book" III

The "drawings" you are about to see are crude. Those of you with week constitutions may wish to look away. But on a serious note, all of these sketches are from a few years ago (actually four years ago to be exact). I was rummaging through some old school work for a friend and I came across some loose-leafs of drawings I had done a while ago. I had just graduated high school and as the days toward college grew closer, I became more and more fidgety and restless. I was nervous about starting school and I would stay up late and just kinda "spit ball" on some notebook paper. These drawings are the byproduct of that.

When I saw "Horton Hatches the Egg." I always felt bad for poor Horton and I could never understand why a freaking elephant would care about an egg. Horton is just falling into some baby momma drama with this mess. Regardless, the cartoon adaptation of the Dr. Seuss book was a classic. Good ol' Bob Clampet sure knew how to make 'em.

So, I get "paid" pretty much no matter what I put in the UDK (University Daily Kansan, official school newspaper of the University of Kansas). Crap on a paper? Paid! Draw with my feet? Paid! Now, I'm using the word "paid" very loosely. In fact there is a good chance that I could find the same amount of money lying around somewhere in the time it takes to do a cartoon. But it's not about money...

Now, Zelda is one of those kinda games you never grow out of. And fans of Zelda were promised a new game quite a while ago. But if your interested in console gaming, the "new" Zelda game is supposed have special game play if you play it on the next Nintendo counsole, code named Revolution. So be on the look out for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess due out sometime later than this date.

What the hell is going on with the MegaMan Games? Its pretty basic, run and shoot things and jump sometimes. MegaMan X series? Okay, fine add some goodies and new gameplay but the basics are intact. I don't want to play any of these complicated "turn-based" strategy games like MegaMan BN or insanely-hard-to-the-point-I-break-something games like MegaMan Zero, or some game that has more letters of the alphabet in it than the real alphabet like MegaMan ZX, what happened to you MegaMan? What happened?

"Valentines Day" or "Insert better title here"

Ah, Valentines day... That magical day that, if you share with someone else, obligates you to do something "nice" for the other. Some 100 million valentines day cards will be given out this year, and some 50 million will be tossed in the trash. Women tend to feel the need to keep the card, longer than the 37 seconds it takes to read it. Men, seem to not feel such an urge. Its not that a card is not appreciated, no that's not it at all. Its that we have no real place to put it. No box of nick-knacks or movie stubs or trinkets. And it's just kinda...some paper...with some words on it.
Nice words that make you feel nice, but...still paper with words on it. So instead of giving your special someone that straight from the oven, pre-made card. Take the day to just enjoy each others company, like any other day. There is too much pressure put upon valentines day and sometimes that can make what was supposed to be a special day, disastrous. And really, while we men appreciate the gesture of cards and gifts, what we really want for valentines day is you....I'm sorry, I mean to FUCK you...sorry.

You instantly try to think back while you stammer to answer the dreaded question, "can I use your computer real quick?" You think, "what sites did I visit in the last few days? Will she notice? Is she going to find my goodies?" My advice, just play it cool or at least try to flip the script on her and somehow find a way to make her feel bad...

Over the holidays I was in line at Best Buy. This woman was in front of me and had a huge Oprah DVD collection in her hand, you could hardly hold it with two hands. Her husband came up a few minutes later to join her in line. He asked "what do you have there honey?" She replied "it's this DVD set I really wanted..." The husband continues with "oh, how..how much is that?" She, hesitantly says, "Oh, its $79.99.." The husband is visibly taken-a-back by this, but he keeps his composure. Now maybe $80 bucks isn't as unreasonable as it seems, I mean maybe there were 8 or 9 disks in that thing, but Oprah? For 80 bucks?! I dunno....

Sometimes you literally have a battle with time. No matter how hard you want to get up and start the day, your body says "meh, lets...let's just NOT not be doing that right now..." Your first reaction may be to take it out on the alarm clock. But, lets not forget, the alarm clock is really just an intermediary. It did nothing wrong, It is only there to relay the message. Unless the alarm clock some how didn't go off, THEN it's the alarm clocks fault, because you could swear to whatever god you may believe in that you set it, and set it correctly. MAXIM Mag-shit-zine

Freestyle Fridays

Even as a youngster, I would become gradually annoyed by the fact every dialogue Yogi the Bear would have had to rhyme. Maybe that's why Boo Boo was added, to move the story along with out having to pull out a rhyming dictionary every two minutes. Anyway, watch out Eminem, if I'm ghost writing for a big star like Yogi, I'm sure you'll be knockin' down my door any day now...

The "Sketch Book" I

So, I don't really have a sketch book, but I do have plenty of computer printing paper and a mechanical pencil.
John Kricfalusi has some really amazing ideas about animation, and some extremely strange ideas as well. Ren and Stimpy was great, but the Adult Party Cartoon that lasted only a few episodes in 2002 on "Spike TV" was more than strange and didn't hesitate to delve into the "special" relationship between Ren and Stimpy. Of course I'll still buy the DVD set when it comes out. Anyway, [adult swim] recently showed "Boo Boo Runs Wild" John K's take on the classic Hanna-Barbara cartoon Yogi Bear. Though I missed the re-airing of it, I did catch it many years back (1999) when it was first shown. This is a drawing of a funny pose from the short. Maybe [adult swim] will also air "A Day in the life of Ranger Smith" soon as well...
This is obvioulsy Homer, but it didn't come out like I planned.

Futurama...I really think that may have been the best show that has
ever been aired on Television. And hopefully we will see more of it in the not to distant future(ama).
